2010 Music City Bowl Champions - UNC Tar Heels!

December 30, 2010 - Nashville, Tennessee

The University of North Carolina Tar Heels Football team defeated the University of Tennessee Volunteers in front of a mostly UT orange clad crowd in Nashville, Tennessee to become the 2010 Music City Bowl Champions. The game was nationally televised on ESPN and set the bowl’s attendance record at 69,143 fans. 

In a double overtime game that last over 4 hours, the Tar Heels sealed the 30-27 victory over the Tennessee Vols on a Casey Barth 23-yard field goal. The Music City Bowl MVP was Tar Heel senior tailback Shaun Draughn who rushed for 160 yards on 23 carries and scored one touchdown on a 58-yard run in the 1st quarter.

2010 Music City Bowl Highlights:

  • The game was the first match-up between the UNC Tar Heels and UT Vols since Carolina defeated Tennessee 22-21 in 1961
  • Senior QB TJ Yates completed 23 of 39 pass attempts for 234 yards and a touchdown
  • Senior tight end Ryan Taylor led the Tar Heels in receiving with 85-yards on 9 catches 
  • The Tar Heel Defense had 4 QB Sacks and 3 Interceptions
  • Junior kicker Casey Barth kicked 3 field goals. A 23-yard game winner in the 2nd overtime and a clutch field goal at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime
