NC Tar Heels Football Attendance Up in Davis Era
After the team at THF (TarHeelsFootball.com) attended the Tar Heels football season opener in Kenan Stadium against Citadel, fan attendance was once again very impressive as the renovated home of the Tar Heels was loud and full of Carolina blue.
From the official UNC Football Press Guide: North Carolina has sold out 12 of its first 13 home games under Butch Davis and ticket sales continue to be steady. Carolina averaged more than 57,000 fans in 2008, including five games with more than 59,000. Kenan Stadium’s capacity is 60,000 and twice the Tar Heels hit or exceeded that number in 2008. Carolina had 60,000 in attendance for the game against NC State and 60,500 vs. Notre Dame when additional bleachers were constructed in the east end zone.
For the first time in recent memory, Carolina sold out every home game in 2008. The attendance of 60,500 for the Notre Dame game tied the third-largest in Kenan Stadium history (62,000 vs. Florida State in 1997, 61,000 vs. South Carolina in 2007 and 60,500 vs. Texas in 2002). Carolina has had three of its top 10 turnouts in the last two seasons under Davis.
North Carolina was 5-2 at Kenan Stadium last year and 9-4 in the past two seasons.
