UNC is 2-0 after a comeback WIN at UConn

Sept. 12th Game Summary: In the first three quarters, the UNC Tar Heel offense showed very little promise over its week one performance against Citadel. The UConn Huskies’ defense was playing much like the Tar Heels’ fast and steady defense, holding Carolina scoreless with very little rushing or passing production.

In the 4th quarter however, the Tar Heels produced 139 yards of its game total 268 yards, behind impressive performances from Ryan Houston and Zack Pianalto. But it was the defense that once again made the big plays needed to secure the road victory.  A key safety gave the Heels a 2 point lead and then a 4th down sack with under a minute to play, secured the Heels’ Victory and moved the 19th ranked North Carolina team to 2-0 this season.

Another Close Game for the Heels: North Carolina has played 27 games in the Butch Davis era and 16 of those game have been decided by 7 points or less.

Defensive Players of the Game: Charles Brown was impressive again in Week 2 with 1 interception, 1 pass broken up, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and 5 tackles. Marvin Austin and Quan Sturdivant had 8 tackles each as part of a strong defensive performance by the Tar Heels.

Offensive Players of the Game: Ryan Houston had 7 rushes for 33 yards, the most for any Tar Heel for the game (average of 4.7 yards per rush) during crucial 4th quarter drives to bring the Heels back from a 10 point deficit. TJ Yates completed 23 of 32 passes for 233 total yards passing (1 touchdown, 2 interceptions). Zack Pianalto had 7 receptions for 87 yards and 1 touchdown before leaving the game late in the 4th quarter with an injury (injury status currently unknown).
