NC State upsets the #24 Tar Heels 28-27

The NC State Wolfpack finish their season 5-7 with a victory against the 8-4 UNC Tar Heels.

The keys to the Wolfpack victory:

  1. Great play from NC State QB Russell Wilson against a tough Tar Heel Defense - the Pack offense didn’t turn the ball over
  2. Too many Tar Heel Penalties - Mental Mistakes
  3. TJ Yates celebrated early and often after some big plays and failed to perform when he was really needed against one of the worst defenses in the ACC
  4. Missed Tackles - Missed Tackles - Missed Tackles

Game ball goes to NC State QB Russell Wilson - great performance by a great player.  It just shows that a good to great QB on an average team can win ball games for his team, and a below average QB on a very talented team can still lose ball games for his team.

The Tar Heels’ offense play-calling clearly reflected (as it has often this year) a lack of confidence in QB TJ Yates’ ability to throw the ball accurately to inexperienced receivers.

Tar Heel Coach Butch Davis falls to 0-3 against the O’Brien led Wolfpack.  This year’s ‘Turkey Bowl’ crown goes to NCSU.  Pack fans can only hope that O’Brien can coach the next 33 years, which is how many consecutive wins the Wolfpack program would need to even up the alltime series against the UNC Tar Heels. The Heels still lead the Wolfpack in alltime victories 63-30-6 (a 63.6% winning percentage against the Wolfpack).

The 2009 Tar Heel team still has its upcoming Bowl Game to look forward to… its second consecutive bowl game.
