This class is what we would like a recruiting class to look like in future years to come.
The first couple years you have to recruit on need. There are voids in the roster, you need speed or skill players or you are short at a position. In this particular recruiting class we signed a player at every position, with the exception of quarterback.
— on the quarterback position —
We felt comfortable with the guys that we had on our team.
We respected the idea that kids who play quarterback want to look into the future. Not only do they want to know whom they are going to play with, they also want to know what their opportunities are to get a chance. … Coach (John) Shoop and I felt that in the Carolina’s there are some of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the country. We felt like this would be an appropriate time to skip the quarterback position.
The Blue-White Game is an excellent opportunity to showcase our football program and we are thrilled ESPN has chosen to telecast our contest.
In addition to the returning upperclassmen, the game also will feature several young players who will make a significant impact this season. This will be the first glimpse at the 2010 Tar Heels and I encourage all Carolina fans to pack Kenan Stadium on April 10. Your participation, energy and enthusiasm continues to make a significant impact on our success.
Our program is excited for the opportunity to play in back-to-back bowl games and make a return trip to Charlotte.
Will Webb and the staff of the Meineke Car Care Bowl do an outstanding job with the game and the activities leading up to the bowl.
Our players are excited to continue their season and play so close to home. We had tremendous fan support at the game in 2008 and we will need that again this year against an outstanding Pittsburgh team.
